1.
complaining…thankfulness
Numbers 11:1-2 (NIV) Now the people complained about
their hardships in the hearing of the LORD, and when he heard them his anger
was aroused. Then fire from the LORD burned among them and consumed some of the
outskirts of the camp. 2 When the
people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the LORD and the fire died down.
Ø PRAISE 1 Thessalonians 5:18
(NIV) …give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in
Christ Jesus.
2.
covetousness…contentment
Numbers
11:4-8 (NIV) The rabble with them began to
crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, "If
only we had meat to eat! 5 We remember the fish we
ate in Egypt
at no cost--also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. 6 But now we have lost our appetite; we never
see anything but this manna!" 7 The
manna was like coriander seed and looked like resin. 8 The people went around gathering it, and
then ground it in a handmill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot
or made it into cakes. And it tasted like something made with olive oil.
Ø CONTENTMENT 1 Timothy
6:6-10 (NIV) But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and
we can take nothing out of it. 8 But
if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 People who want to get rich fall into
temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men
into ruin and destruction. 10 For
the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money,
have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
3.
critical …attitude of love
Numbers 12:1-3 (NIV) Miriam and Aaron began to talk
against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. 2 "Has the LORD spoken only through
Moses?" they asked. "Hasn't he also spoken through us?" And the
LORD heard this. 3 (Now Moses was a
very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)
Ø LOVE
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV) 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It
does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily
angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love
does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always
hopes, always perseveres.
4.
doubt…faith
Numbers 13:1-2 (NIV) The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the
Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders."
VS. 32 (NIV) …32 And
they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored.
They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the
people we saw there are of great size.
Ø FAITH
Hebrews 11:1-6 (NIV) Now faith is being sure of what we
hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This
is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By
faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what
is seen was not made out of what was visible.
6 And
without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him
must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
5.
rebellion…submission
Numbers 16:3 (NIV) They came as a group to oppose
Moses and Aaron and said to them, "You have gone too far! The whole
community is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is with them. Why then do
you set yourselves above the LORD's assembly?"
Ø
SUBMISSION
foundation 1Peter
2:13-17(NIV)
Submit
yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether
to the king, as the supreme authority, 14 or
to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend
those who do right. 15 For it is
God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish
men.
16 Live as free men, but do not use
your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the
brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
change
before it is too late
1 John 2:3-6 (NIV) 1Jn
2:3 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his
commands. 4 The man who says,
"I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the
truth is not in him. 5 But if
anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we
know we are in him: 6 Whoever
claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
Ø
We become blind to our own needs.
Ø
We become hypocritical.
