1 Timothy 1:1-9
Caution: Truth Ignored
Sunday, January 27, 2008
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus
by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,
2 To Timothy my true son in the
faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
The Sender and His Authority (1:1a)
An Apostle Then and Now: The word means a person who is sent out or sent forth.
Today’s Apostles are different, THEY START CHURCHES.
2 To
Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father
and Christ Jesus our Lord.
The Recipient (1:2a)
TIMOTHY IS
PAUL'S “true son in the
faith.” The word for “true” GENUINE
Mercy: pity,
compassion, affection, kindness
Peace:
bound, joined, and weaved together
GRACE: no other option
3 As I urged you when I went into
OK so we have
several things
False Teaching: is not merely something different it is a false or wrong teaching that is empty of truth, leading in the wrong
direction
Genealogies and myths: those who would put a religious
significance on
their heritage.
Promote Controversies: the goal…to
keep us distracted.
Meaningless Talk: usually involves personal convictions or preferences, or fruity opinions not Biblical doctrine.
1:8-10 (NIV)
8 We know
that the law is good if one uses it properly.
9 We also know that law is made not
for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers
or mothers, for murderers,
10 for adulterers and perverts, for
slave traders and liars and perjurers--and for whatever else is contrary to the
sound doctrine
Teaching the law: involves self-righteousness above the Gospel.
THE MAIN THING IS…DO YOU
AND I LOVE JESUS?
WORSHIP…DVD
