GOD GIVES FIRST

We give because God first gave to us.  God gives us the practical things in life like food, water, and shelter. God gave us life when we were born into this world and God gave us a way to live eternally with Him through His son Jesus Christ.  Coleman Wesleyan Church is committed to modeling the spirit of giving that God has shown us.  We do this by tithing and giving offerings cheerfully.

WHAT IS A TITHE VS. OFFERING?

TITHE

OFFERING

A TITHE is a mathematical term that literally means “tenth” of 10%. God asks us to bring this first to Him before we do anything else with what He has given us in life.  This is because we are stewards of what is given to us. We merely oversee it and use it as God would desire.  He first desires 10% given back and then the rest is to be used in Godly principles to live.

An OFFERING is any amount given to God above and beyond the first fruits of your tithe.  It is a way of saying thank you to God for His provision in our life.  This could be a thank you for practical, financial, or even relational provision.

A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.

Leviticus 27:30, NIV

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LordAlmighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Malachi 3:10, NIV

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

Matthew 23:23, NIV

WHY DO WE GIVE?

Giving is one of the primary ways we worship God.  We
